Where the Magic Happens!


When is the last time you or someone you know said, “I don’t like ________”?

 

Last month?  Last week?

 

Maybe it was yesterday, or maybe even earlier today!

We are not exaggerating when we say we hear this just about EVERY SINGLE DAY.  And, believe it or not, we totally get it!  We get it because this used to be us — we used to have a LONG list of things we didn’t like.

Mushrooms?  No way!  We were the ones who picked them out of our food and left them sitting on the plate like they posed some kind of threat to our well-being.

Brussels sprouts?  Why would anyone eat those soggy little cabbage-like things?!

Guacamole?  I wasn’t even sure what was in guacamole, but was certain I didn’t like it.

Between my husband and me, our list of “I don’t like ______” foods was long.  Beets, eggplant, turnips, tomatoes, kale, fennel, olives, mustard, sauerkraut, anchovies, pickles, raisins, coconut, eggs with runny yolks…just to name a few!

 

Now?

We absolutely LOVE – and CRAVE – all of these foods!  What happened to go from loathing these foods to craving them?

Please trust us when we say…this can be you!  By moving outside your comfort zone, getting rid of those pre-conceived notions, and trying foods in different – and DELICIOUS – ways, you can discover a whole new universe of amazing food!

 

Our biggest regret?

It’s that we didn’t do this sooner.  For 30+ years, we missed out on so many delicious and nutritious foods.  The good news is that we still have many more (50+ years?!) to enjoy all of these foods!

Mushrooms?  They are now a staple purchase in every grocery store trip.  And how crazy is this — one of our favorite restaurants in the country is one where mushrooms are in every single item on the menu!

Brussels sprouts?  We now love them roasted, sauteed, raw, shredded, in salads and so much more!

Guacamole?  Have you heard me tell the story about when I made some Hatch Chile Guacamole, and it was SO GOOD the whole thing just magically disappeared?  I still swear there must have been a hole in the bottom of the bowl!  HA!

  1. We liked a lot of foods but there were some we thought we didnt like too. Brussel sprouts was on our list too. But after 5 or 6 years doing Eat Real, I can’t think of anything we dont like or wouldn’t try. When we listened to your video Lonnie said makes me want to go find something new to try. 🙂

  2. Great video! Ken and I watched it together and agree that has been our food journey with Eat Real too. He is willing to try anything once, even if he’s doubtful at first. And you’d be amazed–he’s adding a dash or two of hot sauce to non-spicy dishes now, craving some heat, like in the Vegetable Herb Chowder or Mini Frittatas! Tolerating and even liking more heat has been a big change for him.

    • BTW, the new-to-us ingredient we tried recently was tempeh. We made Tempeh Sloppy last week and liked them so much, I put Tempeh Tacos on the menu for this week!
