Week of September 29, 2014 - Weekly Meal Ideas

We hope you enjoy the seasonal meal ideas this week…the insanely good Autumn Pizza is a favorite this week — the pumpkin sauce and roasted veggies make it taste like Autumn on a pizza!  Looking for a quick and easy way to enjoy Swiss Chard?  The sautéed Swiss Chard with raisins and pine nuts is super tasty and the mouthwatering Hatch Chile Stew will ease you into stew/chili season!  Take advantage of this mild weather while we have it and fire up the grill and make the Tandoori Chicken – it has fantastic flavor and goes great with the Couscous with Nectarines and Toasted Almonds!  Enjoy the season and the REAL food that goes with it!

Thank you Beyond Napa for the wine pairings for this week:

Tandoori Chicken:  Pacific Rim Gewurztraminer from Washington

Hatch Chile Stew:  Von Buhl Riesling from Germany

Autumn Pizza:  Turn 4 Cabernet Sauvignon from California

Pesto Panko Crusted Trout:  Deadbolt White Blend from California

Brussels Sprouts Hash:  A to Z Pinot Noir from Oregon

THE REAL DEALS!

Yes, the farmer’s market is beginning to wind down, but we bought a watermelon and tomatoes last Saturday and they were still amazing!  Plus, the Fall produce is becoming more abundant.  Continue to take advantage of the fresh local produce while you can — the Kansas Grown Farmer’s Market will have ingredients to help with the meals this week!

  • Southwest Corner Farm has late season juicy tomatoes that will work great in the Hatch Chile Stew!  Plus, Get REAL Wichita members receive a FREE tomato!
  • Fresh chicken thighs and drumsticks from Phil’s Farm is what we used for the Tandoori Chicken and “WOW!” it was good!
  • Pick up some Swiss chard from Leland Garden — plus beets for the Autumn Pizza!
  • Butternut squash is my favorite fall squash — Seiwert Farms is the place to go so you can include this in the Autumn Pizza too!
  • Steve’s Jams and Jellies will have a wide variety of flavors – start thinking about holiday gift ideas?!

We used fresh trout from The Seafood Shop for the Pesto Panko Crusted Trout and it was delicious!  Plus, this recipe is a great way to use up fresh basil and make pesto — you can even make extra and freeze it!

Use your coupons for Green Acres for all of the other ingredients for your meals this week — they are always friendly and willing to help you!

Enjoy the weather outdoors at one of our local partners!  So many to choose from…Lotus Leaf, Taste and See, Harvest Kitchen, Avivo, Larkspur, Public at the Brickyard, just to name a few!
