Fat Tuesday is next Tuesday (March 4th)! Even if we can’t celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans, we can at least EAT Mardi Gras style! The Gumbo with Chicken & Sausage is hearty and flavorful. It works great with chicken only, or you can add shrimp. Then, pair it with the Broccoli Cauliflower Salad, which can easily be stretched over multiple meals.
Tuesday is also Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day). It comes from the old English custom of people going to confession, and then using up their ingredients so they were ready to fast for Lent. The ingredients most people had on hand were eggs and milk. Combine this with one or two other ingredients and you have PANCAKES! So, go ahead and celebrate REAL food style! The Oatmeal Raisin Pancakes are healthy, delicious, and one of our favorites – using only a few, simple, REAL ingredients.
