Week of July 14, 2014 - Weekly Meal Ideas


Now that we are in July – bring on the peaches!  Fresh, local peaches and melons are a couple of my favorite things about summer and we will be providing several ideas how to incorporate them into some great-tasting meals!  To start celebrating the fresh peaches and melons (available from local farmers), we have included a Peach Panzanella Salad and a Minty Cucumber Cantaloupe Salad that are both incredibly good!  We also hope you have the chance to try the Grilled Sriracha Meatballs — yes, grilled meatballs! — and the Mexican Corn Quinoa Salad!  This salad is so good with fresh, local produce and it is at the top of my list to take to my next friend or family gathering!  Beyond Napa’s wine pairing suggestions look fantastic this week…we especially like their Oregon (one of our favorite places) Pinot Noir with the Greek Tortellini Salad!

THE REAL DEALS!

We are excited to announce yet another local partner that has joined the Get REAL Wichita family – Cox Farm!  They are open every day and are located on south Seneca…you can visit their farm store, pick up some amazing fresh produce (such as corn, peppers and jalapeños for the Mexican Corn Quinoa Salad) plus, as always, Get REAL Wichita members can use their coupon for an exclusive discount!  It is like a farmer’s market every day!

Did you know that Cow and Sow Deli, located downtown at Douglas and St. Francis, has a small market too (with fresh, local ingredients)?  It’s a quick place to stop on the way home, pick up some fresh greens or meat – they even sell Yum Yum Sprout Mix from Jimmy Vo (Kan-Grow)…great with the Grilled Sriracha Meatballs!

Our other farmer partners will have great deals for you at the Kansas Grown Market at 21st and Ridge this Saturday!

  • Elm Lane Farm will have their delicious greens you can use in the Peach Panzanella Salad!
  • Spread the love with tomatoes — Southwest Corner Farm and Natural to the Corr will both have tomatoes and we have several meal ideas to enjoy their amazing flavor!  The Mexican Corn Quinoa Salad, Greek Tortellini Salad and Peach Panzanella Salad are just a few examples.  Natural to the Corr may have cantaloupe this Saturday too!
  • Phil’s Farm will have your chicken for the Indian Inspired Chicken Kabobs!
  • Kan-Grow Hydro Farm will have Yum-Yum mix for the meatballs, plus other great-tasting produce!
  • The Grilled Sriracha Meatballs would be excellent with ground beef from Graze the Prairie!
  • Leland Farms will have carrots, herbs and other produce for the Garden Vegetable Tagine, plus kale you can add to the Peach Panzanella Salad!

On Saturday (or any day during the week except Sunday) you can also visit Meadowlark Farm in East Wichita — they have fresh peaches for the Peach Panzanella Salad – make it an adventure…you can even pick your own!  Plus they have green beans, cucumbers, zucchini and more!

Public at the Brickyard is about to be famous!  Their amazing mouth-watering bison sliders will be featured on The Travel Channel’s BBQ Crawl episode on July 16th at 9:00 PM.  Don’t miss it — or better yet, join Public for their Watch Party and EAT the sliders WHILE you watch them on TV!
