Did you know that February is National Chocolate Lovers’ Month? (It also happens to be National Return Your Shopping Carts to the Store Month! Who decides these holidays?!) So, if you are looking to enjoy some chocolate sweet treats, especially with Valentine’s Day next week, we have you covered! The Chocolate Souffle is rich and delicious…or, keep it simple with the Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries — they are a perfect indulgence!
Besides Valentine’s Day, next week is loaded with more days to celebrate…Tuesday, February 13th, is Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day)! Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of the Lenten season. This day derives from the old English custom of saying confessions for the wrong things you’ve done, and using up ingredients so people were ready to fast for Lent. The ingredients most people had on hand were eggs and milk…combine this with one or two other ingredients and you have pancakes! In other countries, Shrove Tuesday is known as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, again involving the idea of using up food before Lent.
Go ahead and celebrate in REAL food style with the Slow Cooker Brisket Tacos, or load up on Power Pancakes — both are fantastic! Plus, you can add a little Mardi Gras to your table with the New Orleans Red Beans & Rice!
For those celebrating the season of Lent, we have also included an excellent “no meat” meal idea this week…the One Pot Spaghetti Puttanesca (which happens to go great with a glass of wine)! Or, enjoy the Chile Lime Salmon Fajita Salad…members say “it is incredibly good and loaded with flavor!” We will continue to provide at least one fish or seafood recipe the next few weeks and, of course, vegetarian options too.
