We have a fantastic “this is what I want for my birthday dinner” meal idea this week!  The Bulgogi is crazy good!  Flank steak marinated in a Korean sweet and spicy mix with carrots, onions and cabbage served over rice – so delicious!  Then, if you double the recipe, you can enjoy the leftovers on the Bulgogi Pizza with spicy Scallion Kimchi!  We have been craving this pizza ever since we made it!  And, we wouldn’t leave you hanging with just those two!  The Chicken Shawarma is excellent and perfect for fresh in-season summer veggies, as is the Summer Farro Salad!  Farro is an Italian ancient grain that is making a comeback and definitely worth trying!

It’s Hatch Chile time!  The Hatch Chile Crab Cakes with Peach Salsa are a perfect way to enjoy Hatch Chilies, which you can find at Johnson’s Garden Center!  And, if you are in the mood for a little kick, try sautéing some Shishito Peppers (which you can get from our newest partner, Seiwert Farms, at the Kansas Grown Farmers Market)…see if you become as addicted as we are!

Did you hear about the Second Annual ChileHead Competition?  At the west 13th Johnson’s Garden location, this Saturday, from Noon to 3:00 PM (admission is free), you can watch local food trucks go head-to-head to compete for the best dish made with Hatch Chiles!  Plus local breweries will be making beer with green chilies – and yes, there will be samples!

While you are out and about this weekend, after you get some roasted Hatch Chiles, pick up some fresh crab meat from The Seafood Shop for the Hatch Chile Crab Cakes with Salsa!  And, for all those other ingredients – visit Green Acres – we have you covered on both sides of town – use your coupons for either west or east locations!
